Mechanical behaviour and environmental impacts of a test road built with marine dredged sediments

The first objective of this work was to evaluate the compatibility of this material with current practice used to build roads with standard materials. In the second time, the impacts of time on the mechanical behaviour and the concentration of contaminants in the leachates, such as trace metals and chlorides of the used material, were evaluated.

Fall cone test to characterize shear strength of organic sediments

In this paper, the results of the standard percussion cup test, the penetration cone test, and the laboratory vane test performed on organic sediments and kaolin are discussed. First, the relationship between the water content and the cone penetration depth is explored. Second, the relationship between the shear strength, using the laboratory vane apparatus, and the water content is investigated. Finally, the relationship between the shear strength and the penetration depth of the cone, at different levels of water content, is explored.

Effects of salts and organic matter on Atterberg limits of dredged marine sediments

This paper examines the effects of treatments inducing the reduction of salts and the organic content on the Atterberg limits of marine dredged sediments. To define the liquid limits of the sediments, the results of the percussion-cup test and the fall cone test are compared for raw sediments and treated sediments. For the determination of the plastic limit, the results of the rolling test method are compared to the prediction of the fall cone test. Finally, the relationship between the water contents and the penetration depths between the liquid limit and the plastic limit is explored.

Mechanical behaviour of unsaturated marine sediments: experimental and theoretical approaches

Changes in the leachability of metals from dredged canal sediments during drying and oxidation

The aim of this investigation was to study and quantify the leaching behaviour of metals within dredged sediment in the first few weeks post disposal, and to determine the infuence of sulphide oxidation on this behaviour.

Influence of fly ash addition on the mechanical properties of treated dredged material

The objectives of these experiments were to identify the effect of fly ash on the strength behavior and its strength durability on the extreme conditions. The improvement in mechanical properties such as optimum moisture content, pH values and unconfined compressive strength values were investigated. Sediment-cement mixture, sediment-lime mixture and sediment-fly ash-lime-cement mixture were prepared and compacted at the optimum water content. Unconfined compressive strength tests were then performed on this mixtures in normal conditions and in extreme condition.
